The roots of the partnership dates back to 1885 when its two founding members, George Poppleton and Charles Appleby, joined together to form an accountancy practice specialising in insolvency. The business prospered and Poppleton and Appleby became a nationwide name for insolvency based in Sheffield, London, Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff. In 1984 the national practice was broken up and each office traded independently. Since then the Sheffield office has expanded to become one of the largest independent insolvency and turnaround firms in the country and changed its name in 2004 to ‘The P&A Partnership’. Together with the associated company, P&A Receivables Services plc, it now provides the most comprehensive range of business financial solutions, from one stop, in the UK.
Today, the practice provides a countrywide service for clients from a centre of excellence in Sheffield and has offices in Leeds, London, York and Glasgow. The partners are experienced in all types of turnaround, business rescue and insolvency matters and a separate dedicated unit, Probitas, which is supported by the intelligent use of IT and supervised by a senior Insolvency Practitioner, provides a nationwide service for the smaller client on a lower cost basis. With modern communications, distance is never an issue.
The practice has a strong commitment to find fast and effective solutions to financial problems, and only recommends administration, liquidation or personal bankruptcy when all other solutions have been explored.
The P&A Partnership is a member firm of the Insolvency Practitioners Association and the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) and act for all clearing banks, factors discounters and asset-based lenders. Our clients include multinational PLCs, SMEs, financial institutions, accountants, solicitors and business advisors. As the partnership works only in the field of business rescue and insolvency, we can not only promise dedicated expertise, but can also assure our professional clients that we pose no competition to their own business base.
Through the associated company, P&A Receivables Services plc, we are able to offer an integrated range of credit management solutions from debt collection, asset recovery, fraud and other investigations, consultancy lender and commercial finance broking services, training and recruitment.
